Ed in the North Bay

Hey Roxanne,

I am sixty-two and have been with the same company for thirty-five years. I don’t want to retire, but over heard a few of my co-workers saying they wish I would hurry up and die or retire so they can move up. I realize they need the extra income, but that’s not my problem. I am mad as hell, what do I do?

Ed

Dear Ed,

Don’t let them do you like that! That’s right; turn it around to your advantage. Anger will only fuel their fire. So, let them know in a JOKING sense you got the gist of their conversation. Next time they bring up death or retirement, chime right in and do a spin on it. Your co-workers will feel pretty lame for past remarks said. Remember, “62” is now considered the new “52”.

Jessie in the North Bay

Hey Roxanne,

I am so happy, I just moved in with my boyfriend and everything is great. The only problem is my friends. They are jealous of me when I say I am so happy. I find myself telling them I am not that happy so they will be happy that I am not happy. I don’t want to get new friends. I just don’t know why they are such bitches sometimes.

Dear Jessie,

You ever heard the saying, “Misery loves company?” Sounds like it is ringing though in this instance. In other words your pals may feel like you are rubbing their noses in your bliss. So all future conversations should omit the, “I am so happy phrase.” There is so much more out there to share with friends. Keep it cool. You following me here? Don’t have to emphasize your contentment. It is already reflected in your being.

Unhappy in the North Bay

Hey Roxanne,

Well mom was right, don’t have unprotected sex, you guessed it, I have genital warts. I went to the doctor and he said there is no cure, I feel so stupid, I am almost 25 years old. I haven’t decided if I need to tell my mother or not. I know she knows something is wrong because I don’t go out anymore. It is very depressing, do I tell her or not?

Unhappy
North Bay, CA

Dear Unhappy,

It’s not about fessing up to mom, but taking care of you during this trying time. Call the physician back, and explain your feelings. Hopefully, he will know of a support group or can hook you up with someone who helps with the emotional aspect. Getting the correct backing and knowledge will assist you to move on with your life. Later if need be, approach your mom about the situation.

Didn't Get Your Name in the North Bay

Hey Roxanne,

My mom treats me different than my brothers; she is so mean to me and so sweet them. Even at Christmas she buys them everything and me one thing, what gives?

Didn’t get your name.
North Bay, Ca

Dear Didn’t,

Go to the source and ask your mom. Before getting totally miffed give the issue some thought. Are you over-reacting or is there some past deed(s) that have occurred? If everything is cool on your end then it’s time to do the talk. Express your feelings and simply ask why. You will never know unless you inquire.
